Recent heavy rainfall with repeated thunderstorms has impacted area river levels. The National Weather Service of the Quad Cities has issued a flood warning for the English River for Washington and Johnson County, and the Skunk River for Keokuk County.
As of 12:00 a.m. Thursday, the water in the English River at Kalona had reached 13.7 feet. The river is expected to rise above flood stage to a crest of 14.8 feet Thursday afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage just after midnight tonight. The flood stage is 14 feet. At 14 feet, agricultural land along the river begins to flood.
The North Skunk River near Sigourney also has a flood warning in place until Saturday. As of 7:30 a.m. Thursday the water was at 15.1 feet and rising.
