Students say Hawk Alert delivered near-instant warning after Iowa City shooting

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – It took just minutes for University of Iowa students and employees to be alerted to a shooting early Sunday morning in the Iowa City Pedestrian Mall, as the university’s emergency notification system pushed out warnings.

For many on campus, those messages—known as Hawk Alerts—were the first indication something was wrong.
