SHELLSBURG, Iowa (KCRG) – A nonprofit group is asking the city of Shellsburg to remove playground equipment from the city’s only park, saying an inspection it commissioned found the park unsafe for children.
The Shellsburg City Park has had its current equipment since 1997. The city posted on social media earlier this year that it repaired rusted and broken parts.
But Shellsburg Parks and Events, a nonprofit formed to address the issue, paid for an inspection that concluded the park is not safe for use. The inspection found sharp metal fragments protruding from the deck, bolts sticking out, and a slide with visible cracks…
