IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – The popular Shorts Burger and Shine in downtown Iowa City appears to be on the brink of permanently closing after losing an appeal to keep its lease.
The ruling from the Iowa Supreme Court culminates a years-long fight over the lease for its location at 18 South Clinton St. with the landlord, Midwest One Bank. Shorts Burger and Shine had vowed to stay open during the legal fight after a district court initially ordered it to vacate the space in 2024.
Shorts Burger and Shine has operated out of the downtown location since 2008. Its current lease started in May 2011 but the issues did not boil up until 2022…
