Downtown Mesa food hall will help fledgling eateries

Start-up restaurateurs will soon be able to learn resiliency and sustainability with Main Street Market, an incubator food hall planned for downtown Mesa that will also offer up seven food concepts to the public.

Mesa City Council approved a 10-year lease agreement with Local First Arizona to operate an incubator program at a building on Main Street near MacDonald, acquired four years ago for $1.6 million with federal pandemic relief dollars.

The building, torn down to the studs and being rebuilt, sits on a site that formerly housed a number of different businesses, including a bank, a market and a Catholic bookstore.

“We purchased 111 West Main Street to develop a restaurant and food business incubator really with the goal of creating resilient small businesses that will support our economy in the future and can stand up against any challenges that may be faced such as a pandemic” said Jeff McVay, Urban Transformation manager…
