Buckle up, drivers. A new phase of the Interstate 10 widening project between Phoenix and Casa Grande is underway.
Crews began construction on an 11-mile stretch in both directions between Loop 202 (Santan/South Mountain freeways) and the Gila River, the Arizona Department of Transportation announced Tuesday.
The work marks the third of four segments in the 26-mile I-10 Wild Horse Pass Corridor Project, which aims to ease congestion and shorten travel times.
What improvements are planned?
- Rebuild the interchanges at Wild Horse Pass Boulevard, Riggs Road and Queen Creek Road/State Route 347.
- Build a new interchange at Koli Road, between Wild Horse Pass Boulevard and Queen Creek Road.
- Put up overhead message boards, freeway cameras, and systems that detect wrong-way drivers.
What about the other parts of the I-10 widening project?
Construction on the first segment began in May 2024 to replace the I-10 bridges over the Gila River, about 11 miles south of Loop 202. Finishing touches on the new bridges are scheduled for next month…
