The firearm was found on the floor of a classroom in Scottsdale, prompting cops to lockdown the school
Arizona police revealed an 11-year-old was in custody after a loaded handgun was found inside a classroom on Thursday.
Officers with the Scottsdale Police Department were called out to Mountainside Middle School at around 12 p.m. Thursday, the department said on X.
When officers arrived, they found the loaded firearm inside one of the classrooms. Cops then searched the rest of the building for any other weapons.
“After conducting a search of the school, officers began interviews with students who may have had information about the gun,” the department said Thursday night.
“The school was in lockdown for three hours and once the all-clear was given, the students were released about ten minutes after the normal release time.”
After gathering evidence, cops arrested the 11-year-old boy. Charges were being filed for minor prohibited from possessing firearms, possessing deadly weapons on school grounds and recklessly handling deadly weapons.
