Mesa residents can now report neighbors for lighting illegal fireworks, police say

The Mesa Police Department has created a system that allows residents to anonymously report illegalfireworks.

From Monday through Saturday, residents can report any illegal firework activity they witness through through the City of Mesa website .

How does it work?

To file a tip, residents should go to the “Report Fireworks” page under the “Residents” tab. Here, residents can choose to submit an anonymous request prior to submitting a complaint.

This will create an email that is sent to a specific mailbox that is “monitored at all hours of the day and night” by Special Operations lieutenants, sergeants, and the Real Time Crime Center, which ensures that no complaints are missed, Mesa police said.

Once a complaint is verified, officers will be dispatched to the area to investigate, the department added.

In an effort to combat illegal firework activity, a group of dedicated Mesa police officers have been assigned to calls specifically related to fireworks in preparation of the upcoming holiday, officials said.
