Student detained after loaded gun found in backpack at Laveen Elementary

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — School officials say a seventh-grade student was detained after a loaded gun was found inside a backpack at Laveen Elementary School on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the Laveen Elementary School District confirmed to Arizona’s Family that a 12-year-old boy was detained after another student reported that he had a gun in his possession.

The teacher immediately reported it to the office, and a school resource officer and another staff member immediately contacted the student. After a search of the boy’s backpack, the loaded gun was discovered…
