Heat-related pet deaths on the rise in Maricopa County

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Arizona Humane Society is urging pet owners to keep their beloved animals indoors as extreme heat takes over the Valley.

AHS officials say in the last three weeks, seven dogs have died from the heat in Maricopa County. Tracey Miiller, Director of Field Operations for AHS, says a majority of cases involved dogs left outside in a backyard or patio with no water or shelter.

In one case, a dog was tethered to a leash. In a separate case, two dogs were left in a hot car in Queen Creek for six hours. Both dogs died while their owner was at work, police say, who was later arrested…
