Family members made emotional statements and paid tribute to the victim during a lengthy sentencing hearing for a Mesa woman for the strangulation murder of her mother in Kingman three years ago. They spent 42 minutes telling Judge Doug Camacho that the victim, Brenda Marshall, 71, was a consummate matriarch—with 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
They said that Marshall was a loving, caring woman and the foundation, the backbone and the glue that held their family together. They collectively condemned Gabrielle Axon, 53, and said that no punishment would represent justice for Marshall.
“It is obvious to me that there is nothing that this Court can do, no sentence this Court could impose that would in any way alleviate the pain and suffering emotionally that has been inflicted upon the victim’s family,” Camacho said.
