A stark domestic violence incident turned critical in Phoenix, when police shot a man who was holding a toddler hostage with a machete in an apartment, as per FOX 10 Phoenix. The event, which unfolded around 10 p.m. on September 24 near 31st Avenue and Bethany Home Road, led to the hospitalization of both the man and the child.
According to azcentral.com, the Phoenix Police Department had initially responded to a 911 text alert regarding a domestic violence situation, upon arrival, they evacuated some apartment occupants and through an open door, officers observed the man wielding a machete with the toddler on his lap, despite orders to surrender, the man did not put down his weapon or release the child, leading police to firstly deploy a less-than-lethal device, which proved ineffective.
“Officers moved up and separated the man from the machete and carried the toddler out of the apartment,” the news release from the Phoenix Police Department described the harrowing scene as officers intervened to ensure the safety of the child, as per azcentral.com.
