Mesa Public Schools pupil enrollment continues to decline

Mesa Public Schools’ estimated enrollment has fallen by roughly 1,800 students – a 4.5% decline – this school year from 2024-25 as the state’s largest school district continues for a third consecutive year to see more high school seniors than kids entering kindergarten.

The decline brought total projected enrollment to 51,663, which an administration official said will likely impact budget planning since the per-pupil state subsidy – any Arizona school district’s main source of funding – is tied to enrollment.

“We have beginning of the year enrollment trends,” said Kristi Glassmeyer, senior research analyst and business intelligence. “So based on that, we make decisions and determinations for budget purposes of what we can anticipate as an estimate and that is the point of our projection.”…
