Weekend of Police Activity in Phoenix Area: One Injured in Shooting, Armed Suspect Killed in Goodyear Pursuit

Two separate incidents in the Phoenix metropolitan area over the weekend compelled law enforcement action and raised concerns among residents. In the early hours of Saturday morning, Phoenix police began an investigation following a shooting incident near 7th Avenue and Camelback Road. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, around 2:20 a.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire. A man sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was later transported to a hospital by a friend. Police suggested that the shooting may have been accidental; however, the investigation remains ongoing.

On the same night, an armed man was fatally shot by Goodyear police following a pursuit of a stolen vehicle. KTAR News reported that, just before 11 p.m., Goodyear police were alerted to the stolen vehicle by a license plate reader near Dysart Road and Interstate 10. Officers located the vehicle as it entered a parking lot, but the chase intensified when the driver exited the car, fled on foot, and brandished a handgun. The suspect was shot after three officers opened fire, KTAR.com stated.

No police officers were harmed during the Goodyear incident. Authorities confirmed that the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene despite receiving medical aid from the officers involved.
