Council vote on controversial Chandler data center looms

Americans have a love-hate relationship with data. The love part is easy to see, as they are uploading photos and videos to the cloud daily and relying on cloud services for everything from shopping to banking.

It’s the data center part that they aren’t crazy about. Cities don’t want data centers because they take up a lot of space, need a lot of energy, usually need a lot of water and provide very few jobs to generate tax revenue.

People living near a data center complain about the noise. The consensus is that the centers are great for fulfilling society’s data needs, just build it somewhere else…
