PHOENIX — An underage Tempe Tavern patron was allegedly involved in a deadly crash after leaving the establishment, according to officials with the Tempe Police Department. The crash prompted police to conduct a large-scale operation where 249 people were arrested for fake IDs and underage drinking.
Officials with the Tempe Police Department said on Sept. 14, an 18-year-old man on a motorcycle crashed with a self-driving Waymo that was turning near Apache Boulevard and Rural Road. Seconds later, the man was hit by the driver of a Camaro, who then left the scene, police said. The man died from his injuries, police said.
After an investigation, officers identified the driver of the Camaro as 19-year-old Ava Bellowe, who turned herself in several hours after the crash, police said. Officers said evidence from her phone, including photos, shows she was at Tempe Tavern from 10:18 p.m. Sept. 13 until 12:42 a.m. Sept. 14, when she walked home…
