Gilbert poised to raise phone, other fees

Gilbert officials are moving to raise fees paid by residents, visitors and businesses for specific services, citing the need to recover General Fund dollars lost to recent legislative changes that impacted its revenue.

The town council on Tuesday, Jan. 20, is expected to vote on publishing a Notice of Intent to impose a tax on coin-operated machine sales while increasing tax rates for cell and landline phones and fees businesses pay to collect taxes on their sales and the fees paid by restaurants and bars.

“The sales tax changes being considered by Council would provide about $10 million of new revenue which would be used to support general town operations such as police, fire, parks, information technology, etc.,” Budget Director Kelly Pfost states in a report to the council on the Notice of Intent…
