Here we are at the beginning of the second quarter of the 21st century. While many are wondering what this new year holds, that got me wondering what Mesa’s year was like a century ago.
Obviously, Mesa is distinctly different in 2026. Compared to our population of about 520,000 today, it was but a village in 1926 with just about 3,400 residents – about 15000% growth in a century.
The year 1926 was America’s Sesquicentennial. But there wasn’t much talk about it in Mesa. The start of the Great Depression was still three years away…
