Pretty in Pink: Chandler car collector turns heads with ‘68 Firebird

Ever since Chandler resident Ken Barnett acquired a 1968 Pontiac Firebird in the color Pink Mist, he said he’s gained a lot of popularity and met many lovely people. As it turns out, Pinky — as he’s named the classic vehicle — was originally owned by renowned singer and actress Nancy Sinatra.

“It’s a beautiful car, it’s fun to drive and I like the convertible top,” Barnett said. “I love sharing the story and people tend to be very interested in the history of the car.”

The congenial car collector first acquired Pinky three and a half years ago in an online auction, where he was the highest bidder. About an hour after winning the auction, he said he received a call from the car club, clueing him in on the matter of Pinky’s unique origins…
