Tempe Union, 8 other districts push back on East Valley Institute of Technology claims

Nine East Valley school districts are pushing back hard against the East Valley Institute of Technology’s latest court filing, arguing that EVIT is wrongly claiming broad authority to keep millions in career and technical education (CTE) funding generated by classes taught on district campuses.

In a March 16 filing in Maricopa County Superior Court, the districts say EVIT’s position would allow it to collect state money tied to students in local CTE classes, provide “virtually no support” for those programs and “retains literally every cent without any obligation to explain or document how the retention of that money supports CTE.”

The response also suggests the feud, which began last summer, could drag on past the current school year at a time when the districts already say they’re close to exhausting the funds they’ve received from EVIT in past years for their on-campus CTE programs…
