SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – Communities across the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry are preparing to celebrate Juneteenth with festivals, live music, food, cultural performances, family-friendly activities and programs honoring Black history and freedom.
Juneteenth, observed June 19, commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
