CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD)— Explore Charleston rolled out its annual “Spoke-tacular” Bicycle Safety Rodeo, giving dozens of children a hands-on lesson in how to stay safe before heading out on bikes, e-bikes, and scooters this summer.
The event brought together community partners, including the Charleston Police Department, whose bike patrol unit demonstrated proper riding gear and safety techniques. Officers showed kids the importance of wearing helmets, knee pads, and proper footwear while navigating a safety course.
Medical experts from the Medical University of South Carolina were also on site, warning families about the “100 Deadliest Days of Summer” a stretch when traffic-related injuries and fatalities tend to rise as more people are on the roads…
