Association holds 29th annual remembrance ceremony honoring those who perished during Middle Passage

SULLIVAN’S ISLAND, S.C. (WCSC) — For the past 29 years, the Charleston area branch of the Association for the Study of African-American Life and History has held its annual remembrance ceremony honoring enslaved Africans who perished during the Middle Passage, and the Lowcountry community has come together to honor and never forget their journey.

“This is a part of our legacy. This is a part of our heritage, and we will not give up on who we are as a people,” Michael Allen, a community partnership specialist and attendee, said.
