CHARLESTON, SC — Robert McCaffrey, the husband of missing West Ashley woman Gayle McCaffrey, has been arrested in connection with the 1990 killing of a New Jersey woman. Authorities say the case broke open decades later through advances in DNA technology.
McCaffrey was taken into custody Friday in Manteo, North Carolina, by a multistate task force and is awaiting extradition to New Jersey.
Authorities say McCaffrey faces murder, kidnapping and burglary charges
Sussex County Prosecutor Daniel M. Perez said McCaffrey is expected to face charges of first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping and second-degree burglary in the death of Lisa Marie McBride.
McBride was reported missing on June 23, 1990, after she did not answer a call following a night out in New York City. She was last seen entering her home in Vernon Township, New Jersey, around 2 a.m.
Searches in 1990 found signs of a forced entry and a missing victim
