CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — The Rethink Folly Road Steering Committee approved an updated set of rules and procedures Wednesday night, as members reviewed a preliminary look at the four phases of Folly Road and where funding will be applied.
Improvements are planned for sections of the road owned by the City of Charleston and Charleston County, following an agreement with the South Carolina Department of Transportation’s road safety assessment. Charleston County announced during the meeting that Phase 1 of the project has been awarded and that a contract vote is expected next month.
The Town of James Island opted out of the agreement back in May following concerns raised by residents and businesses over proposed raised medians. During the committee meeting, SCDOT presented a list of items removed from the project as a result of the town’s decision…
