CHARLESTON, SC — Charleston police are investigating a three-vehicle wreck that left one person dead and several others injured Wednesday afternoon. Investigators say the crash happened around 2:30 p.m. at Halfway Creek Road and Highway 41 after a pickup truck went through a stop sign.
How It Happened
According to the police report, the pickup was hit by an 18-wheeler traveling on Highway 41. The force of that impact caused the truck to overturn and then strike an SUV that was headed the opposite direction on Highway 41.
Police have not said what caused the pickup driver to miss the stop sign. The collision remains under active investigation.
Victims Identified
The pickup driver died at the scene. On Thursday, the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office identified him as 71-year-old Floyd Rubino of Hardeeville.
The pickup passenger was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officials said several other drivers and passengers involved in the crash were also transported for treatment.
No Charges Yet
