CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — A proposed $1 billion cancer hospital at the Medical University of South Carolina is taking another step toward becoming a reality as Charleston officials prepare to review plans for the 14-story facility.
The project, planned for the corner of Ashley Avenue and Calhoun Street next to Rutledge Tower, would create South Carolina’s first hospital dedicated exclusively to cancer care. The new facility would bring inpatient and outpatient cancer services currently spread across the MUSC campus under one roof.
The Charleston Board of Architectural Review is scheduled to get its first look at the plans Wednesday afternoon. Much of the focus will be on how the large, modern facility can fit into one of the country’s most historic cities…
