Police in South Carolina arrested two women in connection with the hit-and-run death of a 2-year-old child. One was the driver and the other, the toddler’s guardian. Officers from the North Charleston Police Department responded to a call around 8:45 p.m. on September 9, 2026, about a pedestrian struck near Rivers Avenue and Eagle Drive. When they arrived, they found little Haisha Dominguez Marin deceased. The driver of the vehicle, 27-year-old Anayely Lovato Guerrero, allegedly fled the scene. When police caught up with her a short time later, she claimed she didn’t realize she’d hit a child.
As the investigation continued, police reportedly uncovered some sad information about Haisha’s home life, leading to the arrest of her guardian, 21-year-old Glaimar Alejandra Ramirez Dominguez. The families of both women claim they’re innocent.
Guerrero was reportedly in the area at the time of the accident.
According to court documents obtained by WCSC, officers from the North Charleston Police Department tracked the 2020 Toyota Tacoma involved in the accident to Guerrero on September 10. When they spoke to the suspect, she allegedly claimed she’d left Goodwill around 8:40 p.m. the night before and drove through the area. She recalled hearing a “bang,” but didn’t see anything. Guerrero said she kept driving. A police officer’s statement told a different story.
An officer on the scene claimed Guerrero got out of her car.
Frencio Lovato Guerrero, the suspect’s brother, told The Post and Courier his sister did not know she struck Haisha. Instead, he claimed a different vehicle hit the toddler, and Guerrero drove over her body with her car.An officer at the scene reported that surveillance showed Guerrero driving 65 mph in a 45-mph zone. The officer also testified that Guerrero got out of her truck to check for damage. The brother denied the officer’s claim that his sister got out of the car to look at her car.
Officers arrested Guerrero, who faces charges of reckless homicide and leaving the scene of a collision involving death.
