Coroner reveals cause of death for Justine May’s daughters

LADSON S.C. (WCIV) — The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has revealed the cause of death for the two daughters of Justine May, the Ladson mother charged with homicide by child abuse in connection with their deaths.

Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal on Thursday identified the children as Emory Deacon, 33 months old, and Harlow Deacon, 15 months old. According to the coroner’s office, both girls died from starvation and dehydration due to neglect.

The sisters were found dead during a Sept. 29 welfare check at a home on Pinewood Drive in Ladson. While investigators had previously classified the deaths as homicides and charged May in the case, authorities had not publicly released the children’s names, ages or specific causes of death until Thursday…
