MPPD issues fraud alert after over $200K in mailed checks stolen last year

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – The Mount Pleasant Police Department (MPPD) has issued a fraud alert after people who mailed checks at the Mount Pleasant Post Office lost more than $200,000 in the last year alone.

The police department is advising against sending a check through the mail as in many cases the checks are cashed in other states or even countries.

The department says that if residents would like to mail a check, they recommend sending it through indoor mail slots or handing it directly to a carrier, though the safest option is to pay online…
