In addition to governor and federal races, Dorchester County voters will decide who will represent them at the Statehouse when they cast their ballots this election season. As the Summerville area sees continued growth and rural parts of the county deal with some of the fallout from that growth, here’s who’s running to address those issues and more in Columbia.
House District 94
House District 94 is based in Summerville, covering much of the southern half of town, along with parts of Lincolnville and Ladson in Charleston County.
Incumbent state Rep. Gil Gatch, a Summerville Republican, has represented the district since 2021. A graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, Gatch has his own law firm and also holds a theology degree from the Southern Evangelical Seminary, where he serves on the board of directors.
Among Gatch’s achievements in the Statehouse was the 2025 passage of the S.C. Energy Security Act, which he sponsored, that looks to scale the state’s energy infrastructure to keep up with the state’s rapid growth by requiring expedited review and permitting for energy infrastructure.
