Meet the two Lowcountry Democrats fighting for a seat in the South Carolina House

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD)- Two candidates from the Lowcountry are fighting for a seat in the South Carolina House.

Eduardo Curry II and Tiffany Spann-Wilder are running to represent District 109, which covers portions of Charleston and Dorchester counties.

The seat was left open after then-Rep. Deon Tedder won a special runoff election to fill State Senate District 42 in November.

Both candidates are Democrats and no Republicans have filed for the race, meaning Tedder’s replacement will be decided in the primary.

Early voting is underway and the special election primary will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 30.

Here’s a closer look at the candidates:

Eduardo Curry

As the grandson of educators and ministers, Lowcountry native Eduardo Curry II said he grew up understanding the importance of service.

He currently serves as the School Engagement Program Manager for Charleston Promise Neighborhood, a nonprofit organization that provides and facilitates programs and services to families in a 5.6-square-mile area of Charleston County.
