Black Voters Matter starts Campaign tour in South Carolina

NORTH CHARLESTON S.C. (WCBD)–The black voters matter organization is launching its “We Fight Back campaign” to empower voters as we enter election season.

Black Voters Matter is an organization that tours the South, focusing on recruiting young black people to vote and educating the community on the importance of voting. This year, their first stop was South Carolina, which plays a major role in the 2024 primaries.

“We wanted to acknowledge and recognize the importance of South Carolina being moved up to be first in the nation in the democratic primary. We don’t think that has gotten enough attention or discussion,” said Cliff Albright, the founder of Black Votes Matter.

Students who came out to the event say they’re energized and ready to have their voices heard, hoping to see leaders address significant issues that matter to them.

But all in all, when I say I’m tired, I’m tired of only being 24 and tired. I’m tired of having to go and say, oh well, woah is me, no woah is not me. Woah are those who go against us, but be prepared to be held accountable, be ready to answer to the people that put you in the power because the power truly lies with the people ashaè,” said Adrian Consonery Jr, an advocate for Black votes Matter.
