CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The International African American Museum will host an author talk on Thursday at Burke High School with a national award-winning author and scholar.
Dr. Ibram X. Kendi will discuss his latest work, Barracoon: Adopted for Young Readers , a younger adaption of Barracoon by Zora Neal Hurston. The story follows the life of Cudjo Lewis, one of the last survivors of the Atlantic human trade.

“With Burke’s historic roots as a school for African Americans in the late nineteenth century and its role in fostering student activism during the civil rights movement, it serves as a powerful setting for a conversation on preserving and sharing history that can help educate, shape, and nurture younger generations,” said the press release.
