CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – The Greater Charleston area was honored in a ceremony Friday when it was designated as an official Coast Guard Community. Coast Guard Communities were first established by Congress in 1998 as a way to recognize special efforts put in by communities to celebrate and embrace the servicemembers working within them.
