ECU drops 6-1 decision to Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The East Carolina women’s tennis team began its weekend in Charleston with a 6-1 setback to Charleston Southern Saturday at the Gary Clark Banks Sr. Tennis Center.

The Pirates attempted to pick up their first win of the campaign Sunday morning when they face off with the College of Charleston at 10 a.m.

The Big South Conference preseason favorite Buccaneers won the doubles point with victories on courts one and three, but Martina Muzzolon and Kexuan Zhou managed to defeat Noa Boyd and Amila Jusufbegovic by a 6-4 margin.

Kim Auerswald kept her perfect singles record intact, knocking off Boyd 7-6, 6-1. Charleston Southern won the other five matches to clinch the match, though Zhou pushed Anastasia Astakhova to three sets before falling 0-6, 7-6, 8-10 at the No. 4 position.
