Authorities arrest suspect after barricade-hostage situation in Grand Oaks Preserve

LADSON, S.C. (WCBD) – Authorities responded to a barricaded person in the Ladson area on Tuesday afternoon.

Deputies with the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) responded to a residence on Grand Oaks Drive in Grand Oaks Preserve for a standoff with an individual after receiving a call of a hostage situation at 2:09 p.m. Tuesday.

Authorities reported that two women were held hostage; however, they were released after an hour of negotiations.

DCSO says the suspect barricaded is a male they believe him to be in his 30s. Law enforcement said they cleared nearby residents.

Over 40 law enforcement officers responded, including authorities with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, Summerville Police, and South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Officials said Dorchester District 2 (DD2) was notified about the incident and made arrangements with buses, students, and parents.

The suspect is being taken to the L.C. Knight Dorchester County Detention Center, where he will be placed on a warrant hold, said Lt. Rick Carson with DCSO.
