“Big Daddy” of Big Daddy Pork Skins has passed away

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) – The beloved owner of Big Daddy’s Pork Skins, known as “Big Daddy”, Mark H Phoenix, has passed away at 63, the Phoenix family announced in a statement.

He is well known throughout the Lowcountry for his variety of flavored, fresh pork skins and unique cowboy style. Big Daddy Pork Skins website boasts daily made pork skins popped to perfection and shipped the next day.

“Mark was a familiar face at local festivals and markets throughout the Lowcountry, where he delighted crowds with his flavorful pork skins,” the Phoenix family wrote in a press release. “His passion for his craft and his infectious enthusiasm made him a cherished figure among residents and visitors alike.”

The family has invited anyone touched by Mark’s life to attend a memorial service for him at the City Church of Charleston on Wappoo Road. The service will be held on Feb. 3 at 11 a.m. Mark will be laid to rest in St. James AME Church Cemetery.
