Families displaced after duplex fire on Johns Island

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston Fire Department responded to the 3600 block of Maybank Highway around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday for a reported structure fire.

Crews were dispatched to a single-story duplex and evacuated residents in both units before quickly extinguishing the blaze.

Officials say the fire was discovered in the attic and crews worked to isolate and limit the damage.

The Fire Marshall Division is investigating this incident. No injuries were reported.

The American Red Cross is assisting the four displaced residents.
