Isle of Palms polar plunge raising funds for SC Special Olympics athletes

ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (WCBD) – Are you brave enough to take the plunge? The 2024 Polar Plunge for Special Olympics will take place on Isle of Palms later this month.

The annual event raises money and awareness for the more than 30,000 Special Olympics athletes in South Carolina. The organization provides year-round sports training and competitions for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

In addition to an invigorating jump into the Atlantic Ocean, attendees can wear their best costumes and enjoy live music from Mount Pleasant’s own Bach to Rock.

The event has raised more than $200,000 since it began in 2015. This year, organizers hope to raise $50,000. A $50 donation will come with registration, and you’ll also receive a 2024-themed t-shirt.

News 2 is accepting donations online here , or you can donate through the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

“The Polar Plunge is much bigger than just jumping in the ocean. Your contribution and involvement helps athletes achieve their goals, live healthier lives and have a sense of inclusion in the community,” said event organizers.
