Incident resolved on Ravenel Bridge

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Emergency crews in Charleston saved an individual who was experiencing a mental health crisis on the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge on Thursday afternoon.

Officers with the Charleston Police Department (CPD) responded to the pedestrian walkway on the bridge after receiving reports that a person was on the outside of the barrier.

Teams quickly arrived and established communication with the individual, according to Sgt. Anthony Gibson, public information officer for the department.

Members of the agency’s Crisis Negotiation Team were also deployed and worked to bring the man to safety with help from the Charleston Fire Department.

Sgt. Gibson said the man is receiving necessary care.
