Suspect fired at officers in barricaded subject call; house caught fire

UPDATE: The State Law Enforcement Division has been called to investigate due to the exchange of gunfire.

Police say the situation is no longer a threat, but the scene remains active.

UPDATE: Officials with the Summerville Police Department say the suspect fired at police officers during the standoff as police used a drone at the home.

We are also told the house containing the suspect is on fire. The fire is about 95% contained, but it has been heavily damaged by the fire.

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – Authorities are responding Friday afternoon to a barricaded person in the Summerville area.

Officers with the Summerville Police Department (SPD) said the incident is taking place at a home on Lilac Drive in the Robynwyn subdivision.

Capt. Chris Hirsch with Summerville PD told News 2 that an officer conducted a traffic stop on an individual around 1:30 p.m.

During the stop, the individual backed into the police cruiser and then took off. The officer pursued the vehicle and observed the male run into a house. The cause of the traffic stop is unknown.
