James Island hit-and-run survivor speaks out months after incident

JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) – Jenn Drummond, the survivor of an apparent hit-and-run incident on James Island, spoke publicly for the first time on Wednesday.

“I want to thank my family for being supportive. They’re definitely making sure I’m ok,” Drummond said.

Drummond was leading a normal life on James Island as the manager and bartender of a local restaurant and the owner of a dog-sitting business.

That all changed early in the morning on June 21, 2023, when a good Samaritan found Drummond lying unconscious on Woodland Shores Road with severe injuries. According to her uncle, Chris Drummond, she sustained fractures to her skull, vertebrae, and teeth, along with other injuries.

Drummond spent six weeks at the Medical University of South Carolina before moving to a center in Georgia that specializes in traumatic brain and spine injuries. That is where she regained her speech. She also got her teeth fixed thanks to a dentist in West Ashley who reached out to help.
