Ravenel rezoning workshop postponed after community protests

RAVENEL, S.C. (WCBD) – A plan to rezone an area of the Ravenel community has been temporarily postponed while owners of the potential development project further review their plans.

It comes after residents protested the idea that about 96 acres would be developed into high-density housing with roughly four homes added per acre.

Ravenel residents concerned over proposed rezoning

Ravenel Town Council held a meeting on Jan. 30 to discuss community concerns . Now, those plans are on hold.

In a letter to the town council this week, Ravenel Mayor Pro Tem W. Buckey Waters said the owners, Tumbleston Trust, requested the town postpone consideration of their rezoning request so that they could further review their application and provide additional information to the public.

He said the Trust indicated they would provide a comprehensive traffic study and a proposed layout that would include the number of houses, entrance locations, buffers, and protected areas.

β€œIt is unclear at this time whether this new information will require resubmission of the request to the Planning and Zoning Commission,” he said.
