Summerville woman dies in collision on Cottageville Hwy, 2 others injured

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — Two vehicles collided head-on Tuesday night in the 14300 block of Cottageville Highway, leaving a Summerville woman dead and two people injured.

At 9:11 p.m., first responders received several reports of the collision, according to Colleton County Fire-Rescue (CCFR).

When crews arrived, they discovered a Lincoln with heavy damage blocking the southbound lane of U.S. Highway 17-A and an overturned Safelite cargo van on the northbound shoulder.

Authorities said the female driver of the Lincoln was pronounced dead on the scene and trapped in the vehicle.

A female passenger in the Lincoln was able to escape the vehicle with non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical, said CCFR. The male driver of the cargo van also escaped with minor injuries and was brought to Colleton Medical Center.

The woman who passed away was freed from the wreckage and taken to the Colleton County Coroner’s Office.
