Charleston computer software company CEO arrested for DUI on Isle of Palms

ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (WCBD) — The President and CEO of a Charleston-based computer software corporation was arrested on Friday for driving under the influence.

Michael Gianoni, Blackbaud CEO, was arrested and charged with a DUI in the first degree early Friday morning.

An incident report from the Isle of Palms Police Department states an officer noticed a Mercedes SUV with high beams on while passing, crossed over the fog line, and failed to signal a lane change on the IOP Connector.

The officer initiated a traffic stop, and when he approached the SUV, he smelled “the overwhelming scent” of alcohol coming from the breath of the driver, identified as Gianoni.

After a series of sobriety tests, the officer determined Gianoni to be “materially and appreciably impaired,” and he was placed under arrest.

Gianoni was released on a $992 PR bond and is expected in court on Apr. 24.

The Blackbaud website describes the company as the “world’s leading cloud software company powering social good.” It is estimated Blackbaud generates over $1 billion in revenue.
