CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – City leaders would like to see former railroads transformed into greenspaces, but some environmental legwork is required to make the move possible. Charleston is converting an area on the peninsula under I-26 through the “Lowcountry Lowline” project. This reclaims 1.7 miles of abandoned railway tracks and highway corridors into a pathway from Huger Street to Mt Pleasant Street.
