Santee Cooper boosts operating conditions as Tropical Storm Debby approaches South Carolina

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WBTW) — Santee Cooper on Sunday afternoon moved to an advanced operating alert status, indicating a greater level of threat to its system as Tropical Storm Debby approaches South Carolina.

“Santee Cooper is monitoring the storm and preparing accordingly so we are best positioned to respond to whatever impact there is due to Tropical Storm Debby,” chief customer officer Vicky Budreau said. “If outages do occur, we will quickly begin restoration efforts as soon as we safely can.”

As of noon on Sunday, the utility has already taken several measures, including:

  • Draw downs of its lakes in anticipation of heavy rainfall
  • Checking and fueling vehicles, including line trucks
  • Preparation of communications equipment
  • Taking inventory, obtaining supplies and relocation of equipment

The Moncks Corner-based utility serves two million customers.
