Johns Island man killed after car strikes tree on Highway 162

HOLLYWOOD, S.C. (WCBD)- Charleston County deputies are investigating after a man was killed in a single-vehicle crash near Hollywood over the weekend.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to a reported collision at the intersection of Highway 162 and Dixie Plantation Road shortly before 3 p.m. Saturday.

An initial investigation determined that the vehicle was traveling east on Highway 162 when it veered off the roadway and struck a tree. Authorities said there were two people in the vehicle at the time.

The passenger — later identified as 58-year-old Raymond Thompson of Johns Island — was pronounced dead on the scene. Authorities did not provide information on the driver’s condition.
