Homeless Man Fatally Struck By Truck on Hwy. 52 in Moncks Corner Identified

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of a homeless man killed in front of Zaxby’s in Moncks Corner while trying to cross the street.

According to Coroner Darnell Hartwell, the deceased pedestrian is Jack Baron Yarborough, 62.

Moncks Corner Police Chief Steve Young said his officers responded to the crash in front of 507 N. Hwy. 52 on Saturday at 5:23 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates a driver in a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling south on North
Hwy. 52, and struck Yarborough as he was crossing the street in front of the restaurant, the police chief said.

Young said Yarborough was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. No one else was injured in the crash.

Investigators closed all lanes of North Hwy. 52 between Rembert C. Dennis Blvd. and Epson Plantation Dr.
while officers completed their investigation. The road was reopened at 7:11 a.m.

Young said the fatal crash is the second investigated by the Moncks Corner Police Department in 2024.
